Some students will love science right away. They will understand the concepts, want to learn more, and be eager for the next lesson. However, some science topics may be challenging for other students, particularly those working below grade level.
It can sometimes be challenging to identify exactly where a student needs help. Some students are not comfortable admitting they may need more explanation on a topic that their peers seem to understand.
This is where modified Grade 6 science lessons can really benefit your students. Modified lessons take the main concepts of a topic and rework them with reduced reading and writing expectations.
Why Modified Grade 6 Science Lessons are Helpful for Teachers
We all want to ensure that our students have what they need to succeed in our classrooms, but sometimes it can be tough to manage the competing priorities and needs of all our students (and ourselves).
This is why modified science lessons, like this Modified Grade 6 Science Bundle, can be so helpful to teachers. By using a modified version of a lesson, teachers can rest assured that students are getting instruction tailored to their needs. You can find the Modified Grade 6 Science Bundle on Shopify CAD or Teachers Pay Teachers USD.
All 2 Peas and a Dog modified lessons are based on the regular grade-level material for a particular unit, such as this Grade 6 Science Bundle. This means modified learners are taught similar material, only with reduced language and reading expectations. You can find the Grade 6 Science Bundle on Shopify CAD or Teachers Pay Teachers USD.
Teachers can save time by using a pre-made modified lesson that aligns with the regular grade lesson, and look for opportunities to integrate discussions or other class work.
Modified Grade 6 science lessons are a great way to provide the differentiated learning students need while keeping the teacher’s workload manageable.
Lessons for All Students
While 2 Peas and a Dog modified lessons are designed specifically for those working below grade level, including those on an IEP or ELL students, they are also great tools for everyone in the classroom.
Science can be a challenging topic for some students, and using a resource that provides just the basics of a concept can be a great way to introduce them to new material.
Teachers can select a particular lesson and use it for the whole class to lay the groundwork for further learning, or just provide modified Grade 6 science lessons to a student who may be struggling with a particular topic.
Modified lessons integrated into the classroom, when needed, reinforce the idea that using different learning materials is not a big deal and that everyone learns in different ways.
Working Together as a Class
I feel that it’s so important to have all students in a classroom working together when possible. Some of the key benefits include:
- Creating cohesion in the classroom, where students know everyone needs to be respected.
- Enhanced learning and understanding. When students working at different levels share thoughts and ideas, they can learn from each other and see different perspectives.
- Promoting acceptance and understanding by reducing any stigma around the type of material each student uses to learn. Everyone is learning, everyone is valued.
In my classroom, I try to have all students work together when possible. Using modified Grade 6 science lessons that align with the regular curriculum makes it easier to find opportunities for alignment.
Another fantastic tool for bringing students together is a digital escape room. Digital Escape Rooms work so well because they are designed as team challenges where students cooperate and collaborate to solve.
Students must work together to solve a series of puzzles and escape from their digital prison. Every student’s voice and input are valuable, and these activities help reinforce that message.
They are also a fantastic way to get students engaged in science!
Your students will love this Forensic Science Digital Escape Room, this Grade 6 Flight Digital Escape Room or this Grade 6 Electricity Digital Escape Room.
