Are you looking for a fun way to welcome students back from March Break (or Spring Break), or just want to celebrate the month of March? If so, your students will love this March Break Creative Writing Assignment.

The return from March Break (or Spring Break) is the perfect time to let your students explore their creativity and do a fun writing assignment. Students are sure to come back from the break full of ideas and want to talk about what they accomplished, no matter how big or small. This resource might inspire you if you’re an educator searching for engaging activities.

After a break, it’s important to acknowledge that students have returned to the classroom. However, it’s equally important to understand that not all students may have had a positive experience during their time away. You know your students best, so make sure you use the writing assignment that will suit them.

Let’s look at the importance of creative writing in middle school and why students will love this March Break Creative Writing Assignment.

Why is it important for students to work on creative writing?

We will always have students who might not want to complete creative writing assignments, but it’s important to remember that creative storytelling has always been a part of our society. It not only provides entertainment and inspiration to readers, but creative writing also helps to preserve cultural heritage and traditions by capturing stories, myths, and historical events. Had these stories not been told, the narratives could have been lost over time.

Creative writing can encourage self-reflection and introspection, helping students gain insights into their own emotions, values, and beliefs. It can also be therapeutic, allowing students to work on self-reflection and self-discovery. It is also a wonderful way to help students improve their communication skills. By crafting stories and poems, students learn about articulating their ideas effectively, using language creatively, and engaging readers or listeners.

March Break Creative Writing Assignment

Asking students to just retell their March Break might be uncomfortable. If they did a lot over their break, it might be hard to organize and settle on what to write about. On the other hand, if they didn’t do a lot over their break, they might have a hard time coming up with ideas about what to write about.

To help students share their experiences in a fun way, I created this March Break Creative Writing Assignment, which is full of free, engaging creative writing prompts that are a low-stress way for students to return from the break.

Teachers have three options to choose from – March Break, Spring Break, or March creative writing pages. Students can select one of the four writing prompts – where they compare their break/month to a dinosaur, a video game, a book, or a dessert. They can be as real to life as they want, or they can be totally creative and make up a story. Students can then share their work with their peers.

This free March Break Creative Writing resource comes in PDF and Google Slides formats, and teachers can choose to assess their students’ writing using a simple checkbric.
