The Benefits of Using Pre-Made Book Talks

Using pre-made book talks can be a game changer in middle and high school classrooms. But do you know what pre-made book talks are and why they’re beneficial? Read on to find out.

The Power Of Recommendation

The library is and always has been a magical place for me. Walking into a building stocked floor to ceiling with books I can browse and read for free on a million different subjects and by authors both known and those waiting to be discovered.

As an English teacher, I want to instill a similar love of all things literary in my students to help them love the idea of reading as much as I do, and one of the best ways to get students to pick up a book is through personal recommendation.

With this in mind, I love giving book talks to my classes – short talks which preview books they might be interested in reading. But this creates a problem – how can I recommend books to my students when I don’t have the time to read them? Enter pre-made book talks

What is a Pre-Made Book Talk?

Pre-made book talks are a great way to preview books, getting your students interested in reading without having to try and fit reading a thousand different titles in amongst the million other things you have on your teaching plate.

In this pre-made book talk resource, teachers are provided with links to Google Slides, which they then copy to their own Google Drive. Each slide comes with a book-themed background and book summary.

This pre-made book talks resource includes twenty different themed book talks with topics such as:

  • Best Grade 6 Books
  • Books for Picky Readers
  • World War Two-Themed Novels for High School Students
  • Engaging Books For 7th and 8th Grade (Engaging and Easy Reads – Chapter Books)

Each book talk includes previews of ten books and is 100% editable, so you can add or subtract titles to fit your situation and needs. These are designed to inspire reading amongst students and for ease of use on the teacher’s part.

The Benefits of Using Pre-Made Book Talks

There are so many wonderful benefits to using pre-made book talks, the main one being that they will save you so much time. We all want to read the best books, but time can be a constraint when you’re a busy teacher.

There are several benefits to using pre-made book talks for middle and high school teachers, including:

  1. Time-Saving: Pre-made book talks can save teachers a significant amount of time as they do not have to spend hours researching and preparing a talk for each book they want to present to their class.
  2. Engaging Students: Pre-made book talks can be a great way to engage students and get them excited about reading. Teachers can use these talks to introduce new books and help students discover new genres and authors.
  3. Broadening Students’ Horizons: Pre-made book talks can expose students to a wider range of books and topics than they may have otherwise encountered. This can help broaden their horizons and encourage them to read more widely.
  4. Supporting Literacy Development: By using pre-made book talks, teachers can help students develop their literacy skills by introducing them to new vocabulary, challenging them to think critically about the books they read, and encouraging them to analyze and interpret texts in new ways.
